Rosemary is a perennial shrub native to the Mediterranean but is hardy enough to grow well in North Yorkshire! It’s usually pictured as a small evergreen plant with needle-like foliage used for cooking. However, in late Spring into early Summer the plant shows off it’s attractive purple-blue flowers which look amazing against the dark green leaves.
Common varieties can be grown into large bushes, low hedges and even formal topiary shapes. It is also happily grown in pots on a terrace or balcony. If you’re looking for something different, ground cover varieties are available.
The herb is available from many supermarkets and all good plant nurseries. It’s also used as an essential oil so if you don’t have space to plant any Rosemary, you can still get the aroma from scented goods such as these candles available from Harrogate Organics.
